Making me angry today
The home office wanting to lessen the number of custodial sentances for men convicted of domestic abuse by allowing more to pay fines or do community work. Apparently if they're "sorry" prison is an unnecessary measure for men who beat up their girlfriends.
I know, why don't we just have that for all crimes? "Yes I did commit multiple axe murders your honour but I've said the magic word so I'll just take one of those nice 'paint your neighbours' fence jobbies' if that's alright with you..."
Violence is, according to experts, a "learned behaviour", which is great because it means that people can change. But removing custodial sentances, sends a message that domestic abuse isn't as bad somehow as other violent crimes, and if you send out that message you can't expect men not to "learn" it.
